Before recommending a Phase 1 swap, we look for hash rate recoverable through airflow — because new miners throttle too if inlet air exceeds 35°C.

The Hot-Aisle Mistake

Several farms we audited in 2025 recirculated exhaust into intake because baffles were removed during a PDU swap and never replaced. Chip temps climbed 8°C above ambient. Restoring cardboard-and-foil baffles — yes, low-tech — recovered 11 TH/s across a 40-unit row without new hardware.

Containment vs. Open Rack

Open racks in warehouse conversions need vertical blanking panels between units. Without them, the top miners breathe exhaust from the row below. We photograph gaps during audits and include panel dimensions in the report appendix.

When Cooling Fixes Are Not Enough

If corrected airflow still leaves units below 0.05 TH/s observed, the chips are likely degraded. At that point Phase 1 retirement makes sense even if fans spin fine.

Seasonal Planning

Summer inlet temps in non-climate-controlled facilities often trigger throttling in August. We recommend completing Phase 2 installs in April–May so new units run through one full heat cycle before Phase 3 commitments.
